Puentista Elected as Student Trustee for Contra Costa CCD Board of Trustees

We are very proud of Puentista Jessica Cisneros from Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill, CA). As a first generation Salvadorian American, she channeled adversities she experienced in her youth and found success at Diablo Valley College where she joined several clubs and took on leadership roles to organize fundraisers and to develop strategic plans for club growth. Off campus, she affiliated with organizations associated to her major, so she joined the Young Democrats to expose herself to the politics of our country. She became so involved that in the Fall 2016 election, she interned for the Mae Torlakson campaign, which exposed her to the ins and outs of political campaigns and being involved in government to work toward social justice. This, along with being a Puente Project participant, has assisted her in finding her voice, so she can defend the rights of others as she works towards her goal of becoming an immigration lawyer. Rebecca Barrett, campaign manager for the Torlakson State Assembly election notes, “Jessica shows a deep commitment to her community and a drive to want to make others’ lives better.” A Political Science major who has just been elected as the next Student Trustee for the Contra Costa Community College District Board of Trustees, we know Jessica Cisneros will make tremendous contributions in her new role. Felicidades, Jessica!
